After the release of the trailer, the poster is now out for Mendes' Away We Go, and it seems the look of indie kids graffiti notebooks is in. Taking a queue from Juno (how can you forget those cutesy opening credits?), Away We Go uses little colored line drawings to draw you in. You like?
And of course, both women are with child...

Butterflies and Slumdogs... it's a perfect match
Awhile back, I mentioned that Pinto would be joining up with Woody Allen on his next picture, and now she has also signed up with Diving Bell director, Julian Schnabel for his film Miral. The film will chronicle real-life woman Hind Husseini's effort to establish an orphanage in Jerusalem after the partition of Palestine in 1948 and the creation of the state of Israel. Schnabel's screenplay is based on Rula Jebreal's original book.Looks like Pinto, who is now known worldwide has decided to use her fame for good and not evil, like playing the hot girl in American Pie 14... it could have happened! But she's too smart for that.

Jon Hamm is reportedly set to take on the role of lawyer Jake Ehrlich, Ginsberg's defense attorney in the obscenity trial regarding Ginsberg's poem, Howl, in the film also titled Howl. See my earlier post for pics of Franco all dressed to impress as Ginsberg. People, myself included, just can't seem to get enough of Hamm, from Mad Men to his SNL ep to 30 Rock... the man is scuttling through Hollywood. But can he play a court room lawyer from the '50's?

Summit's Little Dark Angel
So Edward Cullen aka Robert Pattinson (or Spunk Ransom as he prefers) is sticking it out with Summit and reportedly signing on for Memoirs, a tale of two young "lovers" (I hate that word) who can't get it together in view of family tragedies. I was kind of hoping for his next trick, Pattinson would do an 180 and play, oh I don't know, something other than a brooding tragic romantic lead, but whatev's... it's what the fans want. And of course, we don't actually know what kind of character he'll be playing yet, but I think it's safe to assume that Summit is doing their best to use his ever increasing audience of rabid female fans to their advantage. I think the bigger question is, who will he be playing opposite?
In other Twilight news, I watched the DVD with commentary (because I had to), and I feel so very bad for Ms.
Catherine Hardwicke. The hippy chick director clearly tried very hard to do what she thought was "so cool," (words I couldn't count how many times she said), and unfortunately, every chance they got Pattinson and Stewart (though more Stewart), seemed to make her feel like the unhip mom. Here they sit with microphones, cringing over their performances, complaining about how cold it was, and laughing at how ridiculous the whole thing is, while poor Hardwicke sits idly by trying her best to sell what she thinks is awesomeness personified. She hired them! You'd think they'd be a little grateful. Seriously Kristen, I know you're totally "too cool" for 18, but you're an actor... it's time you got used to talking about being in movies like a human being instead of a douchebag (sorry, that was a little harsh). As a reader of the books, I still love the film, but I've kind of had enough of the actors (well, more Stewart).

Ponyo Swims to America
Just one day after my little blurb about Ponyo on a Cliff by the Sea goes up on InRO (there are a few more blurbs by me as well for your consumption), we finally get a release date on when we lowly Americans will get to see the latest Miyazaki masterpiece. Ponyo will hit domestically this summer, August 14th. American voices in tow include Noah Cyrus, Frankie Jonas, Cate Blanchett, Liam Neeson, Lily Tomlin, Matt Damon, Tina Fey, Cloris Leachman, and Betty White.
