Watchmen Full Opening Credits

UPDATE: Unfortunately the credits video has been taken down (for obvious reasons). I guess it was only a matter of time...

I sort of made a pact with myself that I wouldn't even mention the word Watchmen on here till I saw the movie, and tried to remove myself from some of the hype... but twitchfilm.net tipped me off to something I couldn't ignore.

Now I realize this is bad considering I haven't seen the film, and I'm taking this small section of the movie completely out of context, but watching the title credits was a pretty amazing experience in and of itself. yU+co collaborated with Director Zack Snyder on what I am sure, no matter how you feel about the film, will be known from here on out as "historical" movie credits. Since they play along to the entirety of "Times They Are A-Changin" by Bob Dylan, they're pretty long, but they cover a lot, beautifully. Like I said, since I haven't seen Watchmen yet, I can't speak to how well the rest of the film lives up after the credits, but now I can say I'm looking forward to seeing this on the big screen. Watch the full Opening Credit Sequence here.

  1. My bro-in-law and I saw Watchmen yesterday and afterwards we were actually saying how the opening credits were the best and tightest part of the movie. Besides the tasteless JFK reenactment, I thought they were fantastic too.

  2. Just a question to Ivy: did you read the Watchmen graphic novel?

Other than that, I haven't seen the film (which I'll watch eventually), but the opening credit compresses so many events in such a very concise and nice way. As for the part about the assassination of JFK, I found it really odd.

  3. I did read it many years ago. Been thinking about putting off seeing the movie and re-reading it actually before I go... Not sure if that's a good or bad idea.

  4. I say don't reread the novel. Let the movie be the movie, and let the book be the book. It's my own experience that forcing a relationship between the two often leaves the viewer/reader disappointed.

  5. Yeah that's kind of what I thought. I like letting movies based on books live their own life.

  6. I'll also follow your suggestions (from both of you) myself although I've read a few pages in the graphic novel. Given the length of it and the subplots, I don't want to cry in my beer just because some details (the small ones?), for condensation's (and effectiveness in the plot) sake, were left out.

  7. I'm a bit of a junkie for a good opening credits sequence, and this one was indeed a good'n.

(PANIC ROOM and ALMOST FAMOUS are two of my all-time favorites btw).

Lookin forward to hearing what you have to say about the flick!

  8. I cam eback to watch the opening credits again, and they have been disappeared. Not surprising—I was pretty they had permission to begin with. Apparently they didn't.
